It has been 12 days since my last post about my knee replacement. I decided that if the doctor did not want me to have handicap parking access, I would take that on. So for several days I parked in the middle of the parking lot and walked around the grocery store or Walmart for at least 15 minutes. The driveway to my cabin is gravel, but level, so I found that walking to my neighbor’s driveway four times took me 15 minutes. I was working right along.
THEN I had my first outpatient physical therapy session. I had been to this guy before, and he is so gentle you hardly recognize that he is doing anything. He so gently massaged the kneecap, something no other PT had done. Dang, that knee is SORE! AND to compensate for the left knee hurting I have been walking favoring the left knee. That has aggravated the psoas muscle in the right abdomen and leg AND has caused sciatica in the left leg. I am still using the cane some but didn’t know whether to support the right leg or the left. I feel like I am just a bag of complaints.
I did call the PT and he assigned some additional exercises including ones for the psoas muscle. So, I am a bit better this morning. I must remember that when I had massages that really worked, they were deep tissue massages that loosened up the tension muscles and tendons that were the culprits for the physical issues I was having. These massages are NOT fun. However, they are worth it.
But, hey, the operation is over, everyone who knows anything about this says my wound looks good and I am progressing as expected. I am grateful for much.
My first post-op appointment is Monday, Nov 27.
