Knee replacement part 8, 11/28/23
Five weeks ago, I had a total knee replacement on my left knee. Yesterday I had a 7am appointment with my physical therapist and an 11am appointment with the surgeon. Both pushed me to bend more and straighten more than I was comfortable.
I told my surgeon that my physical therapist was no longer my best friend. Dang, I am sore after I leave there, and sometimes while I am there and sometimes for days later. My surgeon was very pleased with my progress, and said if I wanted to, I could stop physical therapy and do it at home. I admitted that I was being sarcastic. Even though I am hurting and take more pain pills after the stretches and exercises, I can see a significant difference in my flexibility, strength, and stamina from the visits I have with him. He reminded me to be patient (there is that word again), that I am just into 5 weeks of a three-month recovery.
I told him I had shared on Facebook about his hesitation of giving out paperwork providing handicapped parking stickers. I asked my chiropractor if he would do that. Even though my chiropractor agreed, I chose to take it on recovery without getting one. When I completed the initial paperwork to have the knee replaced, I was asked my goal for surgery. I want to hike from the top of Amicalola Falls to the Hike Inn with my grandson, spend the night and hike back. Someone who takes that on does not need even a temporary handicapped parking sticker.
This morning, I needed less pain medication, only 500 Tylenol and 400 ibuprofen.
Healing is continuing.
