Project 2025 and "that guy."
NOAA and the guy who used to be president and wants to be president again.
RE: NOAA – National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
After Project 2025 has gotten lots of bad press, “that guy” has repeatedly stated that he does not know what it is and does not believe in its policy proposals. However, when you look at the document's authors (the link below), you will find that many of them were members of the Republican party who were high-ranking members of “that guy’s” staff when he was President. He certainly has his head in the sand if he does not or did not know about it. And if he does not know about it, then we have a pretty good idea of what will happen if those Republicans are allowed in or around the executive branch of government ever again. This may not be about just “that guy.” It may point to the intentions of the conservative movement.
Today is the day after a major hurricane hit the United States. Helene has just passed through Georgia after experiencing major devastation in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and likely South Carolina and Tennessee.
This morning, I saw a post on Facebook that pointed to what Project 2025 would do to NOAA, the government agency tasked with, among other things, keeping abreast of our weather. I had read some and skimmed the rest of the full document months ago but had forgotten this piece.
First, let's get an idea of why we have NOAA. It is an important part of the Department of the Interior under the Department of Commerce. From the Department of Interior website, I got this foundational information about NOAA:
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (DOC) The mission of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a bureau within the Department of Commerce, is to understand and predict changes in Earth's environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet our Nation's economic, social, and environmental needs. Legal mandates charge NOAA to protect, restore, and manage the use of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources to reduce environmental and economic impacts resulting from invasions from aquatic organisms.
There is more to this description that you can find if you are interested at the website here
This morning, I reviewed the specific recommendations of Project 2025 as it has to do with NOAA. I copy it word for word here:
The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) should be dismantled and many of its functions eliminated, sent to other agencies, privatized, or placed under the control of states and territories.
The above quote is on pages 697/922 of the PDF and 664 of the document itself.

Does that frighten any of you? It does me. I do not trust that, left to individual states or businesses, the coordination for major environmental changes, catastrophic weather events, or assaults to our environment by oil spills or other issues can be handled given the freedom to do what they want.
What do you think? Could you make sure you vote for what you think?
