I missed the first thirty minutes of the vice presidential debate the other night. When I did tune in, I thought, “Who are these people?” There seemed to be civility, something I have not seen much in politics recently. Wow, who are these people who are actually agreeing on some of the issues. They had some differences of opinion on how to address some of the problems, but they agreed on something. Wow.
Vance showed up as someone I might vote for if he ran for president. But wait – he is not running for president. He is running for VICE president. We must remember that he is running NOT for the presidency. He had a totally different demeanor than we have seen since he was picked as “that guy’s” running mate. And his views will likely not make any more difference in “that guy’s” administration than Harris’s during the Biden administration. If you don’t like Biden, you cannot blame his vice president.
THEN, during the debate, Vance refused to admit that Biden/Harris had won the last election. Even though all 50 governors, Democratic and Republican, and all the judges, some “that guy” had appointed, assured that the last election decision was Biden/Harris won, Vance refused to admit that “that guy” had lost. He could not say it. Vance has also said he would not have certified the election as Mike Pence had.
I don’t care if I did like “that guy’s” economic program better. I don’t care if I did agree with his immigration intentions. I don’t care if I thought he would improve foreign relations or country issues. In this country, if you are voted out, YOU ARE OUT. Period. To vote for someone who refuses to give up power is dangerous.
To my friends and family, whom I love regardless of how you vote or your political beliefs, I want you to know that I love my country more than any politician. And I think “this guy” is not who we want to represent us anymore.
We must also remember what “that guy” did to his last vice president. Remember January 6, when Mike Pence refused to follow his president's demands not to certify that Biden had won? “That guy” threw him under the bus and did nothing to protect him from an angry mob storming the capitol.
The New York Times reported the latest accusations by the special counsel investigating “that guy.” The new evidence, as reported by the New York Times on October 2, 2024:
When told by an aide that Vice President Mike Pence was in peril as the rioting on Capitol Hill escalated on Jan. 6, 2021, President Donald J. Trump replied, “So what?”
When one of his lawyers told him that his false claims that the election had been marred by widespread fraud would not hold up in court, Mr. Trump responded, “The details don’t matter.”
On a flight with Mr. Trump and his family after the election, an Oval Office assistant heard Mr. Trump say: “It doesn’t matter if you won or lost the election. You still have to fight like hell.”
This is not how our country was founded, nor what our Constitution dictates is the order of business for how we hold elections and honor who wins.
Vance is very courageous to take on the role of “that guy’s” vice president after what “that guy” did to the last one.
I do not hate “that guy.” I do not want any harm to come to him. I wish for him a long and healthy life doing something else other than being president of my country.
Nope, I'm still not voting for “that guy.”
